reducing myself to 300 dpi

Giles Turnbull on the difficulty of writing his own biography. The punchline: he’s a professional writer.

I found a humorous parallel there to my own struggles as an artist producing artwork for, or about, myself. It’s so much easier to make something for someone else – a friend, a charity, a multinational corporation – than it is to express your own desires. For years my “to-do” lists have included a personal logo & updating something resembling a portfolio, but I always get impatient and distracted and frustrated. And then I procrastinate by making mix CDs for everyone I know.

Tragic.

If you like that essay, you might enjoy the other works there at the Morning News. I’ve gobbled it up, at any rate. And, yes, I did completely poach the spirit of that Turnbull post for my own blog bio – why do you ask?
